INTRODUCING OUR ADOLESCENT PROGRAM
"The first reform in education must be to offer a wider environment and to multiply the possibilities of association and of activity. It is during adolescence that interest in the construction and functioning of society presents itself in germinal form in the individual consciousness" (Maria Montessori, From Childhood to Adolescence 84).
Casa Montessori will strive to support the natural development of adolescence through a holistic, integrated approach to education that supports creativity, social consciousness, and self-value. It will be based upon the framework crafted by Dr. Montessori that aids in the whole development of the personality, tying practical skills to intellect. The Adolescent program of education will root students in community through the pursuit of meaningful work that will ultimately teach moral responsibility to self and society. Both the practical considerations of social organization and the educational syllabus will be consulted often, as well as the readings from which they are drawn. The spirit of flexibility will guide the program implementation, and the short and long term goals will speak to The Plan of Study and Work. It will be a process in the service of the young, emerging adult.
